Women who've aged slowly reveal their secrets

Carol, 45

What did your mother teach you about staying young?
‘Don’t try too hard. It's better to look under-dressed than over-dressed.'

What will you pass on to your daughter?
'Don't smoke, always take off your makeup before you go to bed, and remember to exfoliate weekly.'

What are your diet and beauty tips for looking and feeling good as you age?
'Drink lots of water, don't forget to protect skin during the day and to moisturize at night, and invest in a quality facial oil.'

What do you do in order to de-stress?
'I try to practice mindfulness and meditate wherever I can.'

Joy, 41

What did your mother teach you about staying young?
'Never forget to moisturize your neck as well as your face.'

What will you pass on to your daughter?
'You can get away with much more than you think you can. If it feels good, it probably looks good. Confidence is key. '

What are your diet and beauty tips for looking and feeling good as you age?
‘A facial massage to help stimulate my skin always gives me confidence.’

What do you do in order to de-stress?
'Fresh air is so important, so I take my dog for a long walk along the beach. The best medicine!'

Ellen, 44

What did your mother teach you about staying young?
'You're as young as you feel, and not a day older.'

What will you pass on to your daughter?
'A good haircut is worth all the makeup in the world. Don't forget the hair!'

What are your diet and beauty tips for looking and feeling good as you age?
'Don't snack between meals! Take the time to really enjoy your food when eating. And who you're eating with is just as important as what you're eating – mealtimes should be sociable.'

What do you do in order to de-stress?
'Whenever I feel stressed, I think about how fortunate I am. My health, my family – I'm incredibly lucky and I should recognize it more often.'

Karen, 40

What did your mother teach you about staying young?

'All the makeup in the world won't hide a tired face, so don't forget to get some sleep.'

What will you pass on to your daughter?
'Growing old is a state of mind, but don't forget to enjoy your youth.

What are your diet and beauty tips for looking and feeling good as you age?
'Stay active, even if it's just walking. Nothing brightens the skin like exercise, and your mind becomes so much clearer when you've spent time outside.'

What do you do in order to de-stress?
'I have a hot bath. Candles, expensive bath oils, everything. And I make sure the door is locked!'
